The Windbreaks

Docufilm / 2025 / Portsmouth City Council & Hotwalls

The Windbreaks is an outdoor gallery on Southsea seafront, forming part of the council’s wider seafront arts programme. The project brings art directly into the public realm, using a series of sculptures and installations to complement and enliven the area’s new sea defences.

Five double-sided windbreak panels host rotating artworks, creating a temporary exhibition space that changes throughout the year. New pieces are installed every four months, giving visitors a reason to return and experience the seafront in a different way each time. This video captures one of those artwork changeovers in action.

Port of Call Media was commissioned to produce a short film that introduces The Windbreaks project, documenting the installation process and featuring conversations with the artists and organisers behind it.
