The Portsmouth Markers is an outdoor sculpture trail on Portsmouth's historic seafront, forming part of a long-running public art legacy that has defined the city's cultural landscape for half a century.
The original five stone sculptures were created by artist John Maine RA some 50 years ago, becoming iconic landmarks embedded in the fabric of the seafront. Now, Maine has returned to expand that legacy with a sixth marker, a new work that both honours and extends the vision of the original series.
Port of Call Media was commissioned to produce a short film documenting the creation and installation of the new Portsmouth Marker, exploring the story behind the original and featuring conversations with John Maine about the inspiration and craft that have shaped this remarkable body of work.
