Docufilm / 2025 / Portsmouth City Council

We took to the skies for the documentation of this stunning piece by Turner Prize Nominated artist, Nathan Coley.

This film was commissioned as part of Portsmouth City Council’s ongoing Southsea Coastal Defence scheme. Filming at Southsea Castle and the Lighthouse, the piece explores how contemporary art interacts with Portsmouth’s historic coastline. We set out to deliver a bespoke video production that captured both the physical scale of the work and its emotional presence within the city.

Our Services

Working with the artist, we conducted interviews and ensured the work was captured in a suitably spectacular manner. His perspective helped contextualise the installation to audiences giving viewers a deeper understanding of its intent and impact.

To capture the artwork’s full context, we provided professional drone filming services in Portsmouth. Aerial footage allowed us to reveal the relationship between the sculpture and the environment.

These shots elevated the film’s cinematic quality, showing how the piece sits within the wider landscape of Southsea. All drone operations were conducted safely and in coordination with Portsmouth City Council, ensuring compliance with regulations and site requirements.

Drone videography remains a powerful tool for public art and coastal projects, particularly in locations like Portsmouth and Southsea with their iconic landscapes and heritage sites.

The installation was officially unveiled to the public as part of the Portsmouth 100 celebrations, marking a major cultural milestone for the city. We were positioned on the Castle walls to film the evening’s fireworks, capturing spectacular footage for the film’s final moments.
